Happy Christmas Tree!

Charisse asked if I would post pictures of the tree when it was finished so, Charisse, these are for you.

Hm. Bit of a blur, huh? Is this better?

Okay, here's the real thing, though you can hardly see the lights on.

It's decorated entirely with glass ornaments that I painted last year. I know some of the colors aren't exactly Christmas colors, but they really pop, and it's my tree so I get to use colors that make me happy. Here are a few close-ups:

Merry Christmas, y'all!

  1. Beautiful!!! I love the ornaments you made for me! And the handmade hangers.
Love your tree and the pictures. Just wish I was there to see in person.

    1. Thank you! I wish you were, too. Let's make a deal that next Christmas, we'll both be jollier and mobile so we can share!

  2. Pictures extra for me? Oh Marilyn, I am speechless... Thank you!!! What a lovely tree!! You know, during Christmas i always thought of Maggie from your novel "Some Enchanted Season." You described her Christmas decorations and ornaments so vividly that these were painted in my mind and i wondered how your tree would be! I love your tree, it´s simply beautiful and so charming! My, you have so many talents- writer, artist, painter, gardener, cook, and am sure a lot more! Wishing you and your family, and that include your wonderful pets, a very Merry Christmas!

    1. You're very welcome, Charisse. Some of Maggie's ornaments were actually mine. Maybe next year I'll get really energetic and unpack all those cartons from the Christmas closet. (Yep, I really call it that.) When I decorate the tree with the regular ornaments, it takes so long because I have to examine each one and remember where/when we got it or who gave it to us. :)

I also have a small tree, maybe 2 1/2' tall, that we decorate with a cowboy theme -- miniature hats, horses, cows, etc.

I'm guessing you'll be putting your tree up today? Will there be any photos on Facebook or your blog?

I hope you and your daughter have a wonderful Christmas!!

  3. Thanks, Marilyn! We do have a wonderful Christmas. I did our tree last 23rd and i was done before midnight. It would have been too much for me to tacke everything yesterday.;) But i only put the presents under the tree after we attended the mass, that is, i had to prod my daughter to go straight to the bathroom first and not come to the living roon until i´ve placed all the presents under the tree and turned on the lights. KC made pictures of the tree but i don´t know when she´ll let me have the fotos. She was rumbling that the tree was shorter than she was & that it didn´t smell of fresh fir, so I´ll see, if she would allow me to put the pictures public. Again, happy holidays!

    1. LOL about the fresh fir. Ours is artificial, but I figure if I want to smell fir, I can go outside. We have several in our yard. :)

I saw the pictures on Facebook, and it was a lovely tree. When do the kids get old enough to help decorate the tree? Is it not tradition until they're grown or moved out of the house?

  4. :D!! Actually, when the kids get to school they slowly realize also what´s really going on. Many families let the older children help with the decorating. KC surprised me last year, when i returned from work, and she had decorated our artificial tree already. She couldn´t wait until the 24th! The presents though are normally put under the tree only shortly before the giving of gifts on Christmas Eve.
I was surprised when a few days ago, KC asked me what really was the truth when she was small- how come that the presents suddenly happened to be there & asked me if I was actualy the one who brought them under the tree, while she was diverted. Well, soon she´d find it out herself but for now, I told her that - "es war wie es war, das Christkind" - (it was how it was, the baby Jesus brought her her presents)!

    1. Oh, I like that last part. She sounds like a great kid.

I'll confess: when we were kids, my mom would put each gift under the tree as soon as it was wrapped. One year, she was at work, and we were home, already out of school for the holidays. We were bored, so we snooped around, found one that rattled like a game, opened it, played it all day, then wrapped it back up and had it under the tree again when she got home.

When she found out, she was not happy, but she had to love us anyway. :)
